Cathy's Career Path:
- Originally wanted to be a vet. Matriculated in UVM as an Animal Science major. Personal interest in animal rights: ALDF
Became an English major. I still love James Herriot and Beatrix Potter. - Jenkins Law Library: then and now County Law Library with law firm members
- Princeton University Library: Assistant to Law and Politics. Academic Library
PU did not have a law school. Law was an aspect of the Politics Department. Worked with the LAPA Program (Chris Eisgruber, now President of PU, Directed the program). Advice: attend speakers!
Other faculty who were there include Anne-Marie Slaughter, Amy Gutmann, Ceci Rouse, Robert George, Fred Greenstein -- Cornell West Toni Morrison and Peter Singer left an impression on me. I heard Justice O'Connor speak as well as Lawrence Lessig and Gigi Sohn.
While working full time, I earned by MLIS from Rutgers University -- New Brunswick
I'm a librarian -- not a lawyer.
Syracuse offers a joint JD/MLIS - New Jersey State Library Public library with a Law Division
- Ithaca College Library (2005+). When I began here, Legal Studies major/minor was in the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies. When DIIS was disbanded Legal Studies moved to the School of Business. This Fall (2018) it has moved into the Politics Department in the school of Humanities & Sciences. Although my position is a liaison to the Park School of Communications, I also serve the Legal Studies and Communication Studies programs in H&S. My law background gave me a leg up in getting this job.
