Search Strategies

It is recommended before you start your research to determine keywords/subject headings to use in your search. Try to think of generic as well as possible discipline specific terms. Type out as many synonyms or related terms that you can think of. It is best if you can brainstorm with classmates or friends.

Once you have determined your keywords/subject headings you will want to look for articles using databases which cover your field of inquiry. There are general databases as well as subject/discipline specific ones.

You will also want to find what are called scholarly, academic, peer-reviewed or academic journal articles. For further explanation on the attributes and how to identify these you might want to consult the following guide. Most databases allow one to limit to these types of journals.
