Media Literacy

About

This guide was created to promote Media Literacy education, to celebrate the annual event Media Literacy Week, and promote the Media Literacy minor at Ithaca College.

From the Media Literacy Week website:

Inspired by Canada’s Media Literacy Week, the 5th annual U.S. Media Literacy Week, October 26-30th, 2020, is hosted by the National Association for Media Literacy Education. The mission is to highlight the power of media literacy education and its essential role in education all across the country.

I added some pages (left menu) from related guides including:

  • Mis & Disinformation - I added this page to the IC Votes guide to alert students to disinformation about the election on social media
  • Media Criticism - This page is from a guide on Propaganda.  One means to combat propaganda is to question what you're reading and where it comes from.
  • Indy v MSM - A guide on Independent Media lists various outlets that are not funded by large corporations that may influence what is being covered and how.
