TVDM 26300: Mass Media Research Methods

Course Description:

A basic introduction to quantitative and qualitative research in mass communications, including sampling, survey, experiment, systematic content analysis, in-depth interviews, focus groups, and qualitative content analysis. Review of literature, identification of basic concepts, problems, responsibilities, and research ethics; procedures and basic techniques of computer data analysis; hypothesis testing and statistical interpretation and analysis. A research project is required.

Library Support:

The instruction session will instruct students to:

  • Find literature reviews and scholarly research on issues in mass communication
  • Understand the difference between scholarly and trade publications
  • Understand how to gather articles to support a research topic

After a presentation of library resources, students will explore them for possible topics for their own research.
