STCM 45000: Communication Consulting Lab

About this Guide

Course Description: 
In the context of a simulated consulting team, students identify contemporary organizational issues and trends, conduct research and design inquiries, write and design original content, and publish insights that are engaging and actionable for business leaders. This program capstone course reinforces key concepts and skills in communication strategy and stakeholder relations, design thinking, research methods, information / presentation design, business writing, and project management. Students learn to manage project timelines and budgets, create appealing and usable recommendations, and position their expertise through professional publication and presentations. Permission of instructor required

Library Support:

Consultation on search strategy and discovering secondary research for drafting a thematic white paper for your client.
Collecting secondary research should should assist you with the following objectives:

Overview of question or problem 

  • Why is it important and if it’s so important, why hasn’t it been solved yet?  What is still not known? 

Research methods 

  • Overview of methods and why you chose them 

  • What key terms and databases did you search? 

  • How did you find experts and case studies? 

Findings 

  • Summarize secondary research, organized by insight or theme – include powerful quotes or stats 

  • Describe at least two case studies of organizations or people who are doing this successfully or who are engaged in deliberate trials or research
